Really having trouble here....

I really don't know whats going on around the hood.

I recently completed a design for a street area that will be added to the big spot vacted by the Beaverton Vert Ramp. It is real nibbly ledge stuff, manual pads, and some real good flat rails. Nothing to crazy. But good enough for me to wish I was getting to ride it. I don't know when it will be done, but I am gessing it is for summer. The best part about the summer and Beaverton, that right, the helmet nazis.

I guess I will leak a little pic of what it is going to look like.-ben

Stay at the coast. Ride a skateboard. It's not your money or your space.

Well I'm assuming there is a super limited budget for this spot, and Beaverton probably doesn't even want to spend any money on it at all. So basically, for the money you can have several small skate style obstacles, or just one silly quarterpipe sitting in the vacant spot that wouldn't link up to any other part of the park. Your choice.

i go back and forth on this kind of thing... on one side it is something I would never ever ride, so seemingly a compleat waste... om the other side, that will take up about 1/2 the little skate kids and random rollerbladers thus leaving more space for vince to rip it up. So to this, I say yes. But for me Beaverton is a waste of a drive either way.

#1 I'm not upset, I don't have to use it and I got a lot from a bit of work.

#2 Give me some credit here. I would like to think that if I was gong to "hate" on someone I would have a lot harsher things to say, besides it's Vince.

#3 If a person is speaking their mind, they should provide reasoning behind their comments. "Man this sucks!" That doesn't solve anything, it's just another rider complaining and not trying to provide ideas on what to do to solve an apparent problem. You notice it wasn't until I made my post that there was a more rational comment.

#4 This is a street spot. You will see more and more of these popping up around cities. There is a great need for street style parks. To start with It is becoming more and more difficult to actually go out and ride or skate street. With the amount of time and money being put forward by communities to stop our activity, we need somewhere to go, these "street spots" provide that. To end with, Oregon as a whole has well over 80 skateparks that are primarily transition. As much as you would like to think so, most skateboarders and a very large amount of bike riders do not enjoy riding transitions. That is why it is important to provide structures that these individuals would like to use.

Look at the Beaverton park, there are over 10 ramps and only 2 ledges and a few things that are supposed to rails that are unusable. This area will, as Shawn said, free up the entire park and help to seperate the street use people from the ramp use people. The area will still allow full access and use to all parts of the park when it is less populated.

Like it or not, this is the future of skateparks. Gnargoils will not continue to run and build parks in communities that do not reflect the type of obstacles local users want. At least not as long as I am asked to design the park.

I just think its not fair if you want street go skate street keep it out of the fuckin skatepark isn't that what street is all about going out with some friends finding a dope ledge grinding the shit out of it and moving on skating down the street or in our case riding down the street swerving around bunny hoppin up curbs and shit that's street but the person that designed this wouldn't know anything about that they don't care what goes in there they don't have to get stuck riding the piece of shit their about to lay down all this park is going to do is make all the kids a bunch of fuckin nibblers and if they put a real park in the kids would know what it felt like to catch air and not fuckin grind the shit out of the ledges I think its all a big conspiracy with the peg companys the more street parks they build the more pegs get sold oh nevermind everything I just said I'm retarted

I don't think it takes much talent to design, ride, or build a park that looks like this.

I think that having some small ledges and manual pads is a good idea for that space but there needs to be a better design than what this is right now. First of all you need to make it so that the traffic flow through that area isnt going towards the 3footers or the parking lot. This will keep people from going through the park and getting in the way, and also keep skateboards from flying into your car.

On top of manual pads and ledges there needs to be some sort of bank variations including a bank to wall, bank to ledge, hips, and imagine a bank to rail at a skatepark. I dunno just some ideas, I would definately make some adjustments on this design.

Maybe they could spend the money on keeping the lights on later instead of adding some obstacles you can find at your local grocery store.

The point is you can't skate these spots at "the local grocery store", it's illegal. There is a wall that keeps boards from flying into the parking lot. The right hand of the picture is the parking lot, the bottom with the notch is the 6 foot. Traffic flow? This area is pretty much segregated from the rest of the park short of building the Berlin wall. Bank to wall on the manual pad? Don't know how that would work and it does not fit within the requiremets of the area. This area is to be built with no permits and everything is layed out lego style like the current grind ledge, not a permanent concrete feature. That was the #1 requirements. Every part will be poured in a casting and set in place.

There already is bank to rail and a few hips at the skatepark. This design is what is going to be used and it is eactly what every person that went to the meetings wanted. I was the only bike rider in attendance even with the meetings being posted on the site. Some people will like the set up and some wont. There are still a hundred ramps at Beaverton for everyone to enjoy.-ben
