Interbike: Day 3 Finally

*image blatantly stolen from DEFGRIP*

So here we are the last day. Last night was a pretty early evening. I actually slept quite nicely and was on my way on time. The one draw back was not getting to grab any breakfast. I eventually snaked on chips and water, mmmm. This day was like the others except we were swap meet status. Most things were for sell and for really good deals.

About 1:00 or later I was able to convince Slo to bring me some food as he came in through the casino. He agreed and I met him a Ken to let them into the show. Slow handed me my food and off we went. I set up camp in the Meeting room of our booth and went to town on my Beef and Broccoli and Sweet and Sour Pork. Sooo good. Even after the food I was still quite beat feeling. Eventually the bell struck 6:00pm and we started packing as fast as possible.

We were packed in the van and on the road by 7:00 maybe even sooner. We made a stop at the same In and Out we had eaten at on the way in and it was equally gross. We dropped George off at his hotel and made it back to the office around 11. We unloaded the van and I dropped Chris off at his place. Interbike is over. Can't wait for next year. It will take about that long to heal up from this year. Speaking of healing, Hucke survived the week, well if you don't count drinking.

If you haven't done so already do it now, stop by Defgrip and check their stuff.

If you want to check up and see what Odyssey Released at Interbike go here. We will be updating new stuff for a while.-ben

Interbike: Day 2

*image blatantly stolen from BMX Online*

Same story, real late night. Adam Banton was staying in our room and made sure to let me know to wake up every moment I would start snoring. What can I say, I do. So another morning with not much sleep. I lagged behind while Chris and Adam both headed down to the show. I took my time and watched a bit of TV and eventually took a shower.

As I was getting out of the shower Gary Young showed up to get his stuff and shower up. He was staying with Walter Perringer in his rig and look forward to anything resembling home. I eventually was a situated and headed out. I decided to ride around the strip for a bit with hopes of finding something decent for breakfast, no luck there. At least I was out on my bike. I eventually gave up on the food search and headed into the show. Again it was really easy to spot the booth.

I head in and sit down. Then I was offered a sandwich, stoked. We also had a meat and cheese platter in the meeting room. I added some pepperoni and salami and sat down. I must have been starving, it was one of the best sandwiches ever. The day consisted of a lot of the same stuff, answering questions, checking out other peoples stuff, hanging with and meeting new friends.

The day was all just a build up for the evening Nora Cup. 6:00pm rolls around, head to the hotel, actually catch a quick nap and setout to Dinner and the cup. Mosh was having a little party in a room in the Hard Rock, same place the Nora Cup was being held. I make it down stairs and hop in the van. We are half way through our drive to the Rock and I look behind me, Eddie, Caleb Ruecker and crew were in the van and I didn't notice, pretty dope. He arrive and stop through the Mosh party, chat for a bit and head out for dinner. By this time the crew had been cut in half. So Jim his lady, Chase Hawk, JC, Caleb R, Chris, Kevin Mac and myself hit up a diner in the hard Rock to get our eat on.

After dinner we head into the Nora Cup Party. It was like I had ridden that ride already. Everything was the same as the Fit Premier. Only now there was Ride Banners. I was passed a few drink tickets by Jeff Z and passed them out. I really wasn't in a drinking mood so I just wondered around. I eventually ended up outside away from the cigarette smoke and hanging in the casino. Slo and Vince join up and kick it with me. We just sat the heckling people and talking trash. It was real similar to a day a GOODS.

After a bit someone approached my and sounded like the Croc. Hunter. I knew it obviously wasn't him, he's dead, it was none other than Mikey! If remember about a year ago Andy Merrall disappeared for a while in a strange large van. Well Mikey was the Aussie driving that van. It turns out he was back and this time with his younger brother Josh. We talk for a bit. Some security chick was a bitch and told them they couldn't be where we were. I argued and then went back in.

I made it just in time to see the last few awards be handed out. The best was when Josh Harrington dissed Alistair for his wack shirt. Soon after the awards they played Redbull Mean Streets and then had some Burlesque Dancers. The party died real quick after that. Back outside I went. After a long time of hanging and talking with friends we head back to the hotel. I blew $5 bucks on a slot machine and went up to bed. Day 3 soon...

Interbike: Day 1 Opening

*image blatantly taken from DEFGRIP*

Late evening leads into no sleep and an early morning. Quick showers, stretches and a run down to the booth for final setup was the morning. There was also the quick run for a $7.95 breakfast of eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. The first part of the morning was really quite the blur. I do know that I eventually started to see some of the Portland Locals showing up. I had to run a pass to Slo to get him in. Rich and him kicked it for a minute and then set out to explore. Harrison Boyce stopped through and snapped some pics, one being the hijacked image at the top of this post.

People were really stoked on the booth and our complete bike. That thing was crazy, a neon yellow Aaron Ross FBM Stair Master loaded up with every new part we could possibly fit. It was quite the master piece. The best part was the look on Aaron Ross' face when we told him he could have the whole setup as soon as show was over.

The long day lead to a quick run over to the Hotel to clean up and get the team together for the Team Dinner. We went to some Italian Food place that serves the biggest portions ever of great food. I have been to this place a few times and I never remember the name. We ate, drank and were merry. Time to head out to the Fit Life Video Premier.

Some pre-show drinking went down. This was a 21 and over premier, but in normal Portland fashion everyone made it in. Ken Maganelli was wondering around with drinks and I kept having to watch his back when the bouncers started to re-ID everyone. Ken made it through and lived to see the vid. Slo, Jesse, Eddie, Rich, Erock, Little Jeff, Hambone, Inman, the list goes on with Northwest heads in attendance.

The video played and it was really good. Justin killed with a dialed trails part that lead into street destruction. My two favorite parts had to be Van and BF. Van had 2nd part and it did not let you down. What can I say about BF, the dude goes so fast and so big. A true legend in action. There were also a lot of Northwest heads featured in the video too.

The night ended up in the VIP thanks to Edwin. Free drinks were flowing and eventually so was Little Jeff's dinner and blood. I guess Jeff was roughed up pretty good by some bouncers and the let the crimson flow from his arms and head. By that point I had missed the Odyssey Shuttle back to my bed and was waiting for a cab. Day 2 soon...

Stop by Defgrip to view more pics of the show, Including one of our show bike.

Interbike: Day 0 Setup

I arrived at 9am to the office. We loaded up the van, Nuno, Jim and I
dropped our cars off in a safe place for the week and we hit the road.
The van crew was Nuno, Jim, Chris, George and myself. We had one last
dude to pick up and that was Louie. So after that we were a crew of
six.

The drive was pretty smoothe since we left late enough to miss any bad
traffic. We stopped half way in Barstow at In and Out to eat lunch.
The parking lot was packed with cars that had bikes hanging off them.
We received all sorts of looks since there are huge logos on the sides
of the van.
While there I ran into Barney from Tip Plus. After lunch we hit the
road again.

A few hours later we were rolling into LV. This place is crazy. It
comes out of no where and it looks like a giant amusement park. We
managed to take the proper exits with some shady manuvers and we made it
to the Convention Center. After we jumped through some hoops we were
allowed to unpack the van and head for the booth.

I had never seen the booth at this point. I walk in the back doors of
the event center and I really just looked up and into the distance and
damn, there was the booth. A giant 20 x 20 x 16 foot tall green cube.
It was nuts. We took a look around and finished setting up, off to the
hotel and then dinner.

The night ended very good. We had an Odyssey dinner at Ruth Chris
Steakhouse. If you can affored it ever, this place is well on point.
Amazing food. A little tip, if you eat a steak house where the cook
knows what he is doing, never order a steak more then medium. It showes
the cook you don't appreciate good taste and he will prolly leather up
your $55 dollar steak. Day 2 soon.

Vince all up in this piece...

You know haw fast Vince goes. This past weekend at the SD Comp. was no exception. If you look at the picture above, Vince is going as fast as possible and spinning a 540 on a 6 foot quarter. He is going so fast in fact, that his color cannot entirely keep up with him. It is amazing that you could even shoot a picture fast enough to capture a Vince moment.

Well Fat Tony over at Ride was able to do just that, shoot fast pictures of Fast Vince Kroff with a K-R-O-F-F. Follow this link to scope some pictures of the comp. and yes Vince got 2 up in that piece. Man that Tony guy is fast on the draw.

Oh yeah, don't forget to look at the most ridiculous flair ever from our Portland Homie Joe Riley, insane!

Welcome back Solid....

I am not sure how many years ago I met the guy's from Solid. I do know that it was one early at Burnside. This huge crew of dudes in a van showed up and some of them went on to ride the place like they were local. They were a rowdy bunch, I guess that's another reason they didn't seem out of place.

I have seen Solid go from a loyal crew to a big bike company and back, back is right. A months ago I started hearing about everything in the Solid building ramping back up. I started seeing the local guy's like Chester and Slo reppin the brand and rolling on some amazing looking frames. Hell my oldest friend and brother, Andy Merrall, even got added to the official team roster.

Solid has finally launched their new website. It is still a work in progress, but it is a long stretch from the old days. They have a new frame, the Double AA, new updated stem, sprocket and yes, the death grips are back. So no more hitting up Shad and getting into his stash. I also noticed the GOODS is starting to get some of the stuff in stock.

So check this site to read about the company: www.solidbmx.com

8 more days...

The week after Interbike last year is when I interviewed for my job and I was moved down here by mid November. Since the first day I walked in the office as an employee we have been working for Interbike next year. Well Interbike next year has now become Interbike next week.

The past year, rather 10 months, has gone by so fast, where has the time gone? The amount of projects we have completed. Well, I can't talk about any of the projects yet, but if you stop by the booth I will be more than happy to tell you about them then. All I know is there is still so much to do before we leave.

Sorry if this post sucked. I was going somewhere with it and then I forgot. Oh well, see ya at the I bike if you make it.-dubbs

29 going on a Hundred....

So today was my Birthday and it doesn't look like Slo is going to step up to the plate. Yesterday was great, I guess you read that below. Today I went a rode a pretty dope school with Fudger, Fat Tony, Gary Young and Walter P. Gary was filming for a Props interview, hope I didn't ruin anything, it should be really good.

After being swarmed by some migrating bees we made a long trek to food and then I hit I5 North home bound. The hi-way was horrid and I knew Hucke and crew were at the beach. Then I remembered that my phone was dead and I couldn't call them. I actually made it home in great time. I napped since I hadn't slept in a day.

Later that evening I headed for some dinner and I also got me the big piece of chocolate cake you see above. It was really good and I even got a small carton of milk to go with it. It was all perfect with the exception of no candle and huge group of friends singing Happy Birthday. Then I remembered that Gary and Walter both sang Happy Birthday to me when I showed up to the spot earlier that day. All in all it was a good day and a great weekend.

These are the kinds of weekends that make me think this place really can be amazing. I just need to work on making every weekend memorable. Haha, that's funny. I am talking about memories at a time when I am supposed to start losing mine. Thank you 28, welcome 29. Let's go 20's, we have one more great year left. Thanks to everyone that wished me a Happy Birthday, everyone of you really made such a day away from home great.-ben

Good Day San Diego!?

Headed down to SD for the birthday weekend. There was a contest going on at the Mission Valley Skatepark and Hucke was in town, so I figured it would be cool to go and hang out. When I arrived I quickly discovered Vince along with extended Portland family, Joe Riley, Ryan Mills and Matt C were also in attendance.

Practice was crazy and Pro was even crazier. Vince ruled all by pedaling as fast as possible and doing minimal tricks. People didn't know what to do with a kid going that fast with no brakes, it was great. So random dude ended up winning. By the way, Joe Riley does the biggest flairs of the craziest obstacles, pretty sweet.

I mainly hung out with Ben H. drinking Dr. Pepper Plus, haha. We ended the evening over at Fudgers place with more beverages . While we waited for the clock to strike 12 for my birthday, Ryan decided he wanted to drive his car 160mph. I mentioned filming it, so Ryan, Hucke and myself set out to take care of business.

Ryan merged on to the hiway flying. He made a hard shift and we noticed a dif. looking car ahead of us. It turned out be a Lotus Elise, ehh. Well right about that time we noticed some crazy noise coming from Ryan's turbo. We pulled over and sure enough it was blown. No 160 today, prolly for the better.

All in all a pretty good day. I somehow managed to make my skin even darker. Pretty over it. Ttyl.-ben

SUBROSA...

Ryan Sher Introduces Subrosa…

BMX is who I am, and how I live. 2006 has marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life by fulfilling the dream of starting a BMX bike company from the ground up.

Building a brand to me isn't just selling a product but more about living a lifestyle that encourages us to create products that capture the quality, look and feel that is lacking in BMX. All while supporting the riders and artists who have inspired and supported us!

Subrosa will create a product line with all our riders involved 100%. That level of involvement with Subrosa and the fusion of premium materials, state-of-the-art craftsmanship, and love of BMX will soon produce a collection that BMX can be proud to offer.

I have teamed up with American Mentality, Inc. and Sparky’s Distribution to launch Subrosa’s initial products at the end of 2006 and early 2007.The Subrosa crew will consist of Rich Hirsch, Eli Platt, Ryan Sher and Hoang Tran.
We plan on making everything from frames to complete bikes with the quality and price riders can afford while showcasing a style that all of us demand. Subrosa products will be available exclusively through Sparkys Distribution in the USA and are currently accepting inquiries for International Distribution.

Moving forward to the next chapter, I'm proud to introduce again to you, Subrosa, your next bike.

I've been super sick with a bad cough since about a week after I got back from Portland. I have taken everything and it is not working. Today when I was "trying" to ride, I broke out in a bad cough and it wore me out. It's kinda funny, I think I am allergic to California.

I have gone through all the allergy testing and I was only allergic to dust. I know it's like only allergic to dust, that stuff is everywhere, especially here. This place is just a converted desert. Their is all kinds of crap flying around in the air. Oh well, I guess I better go to the doctor. Maybe he will say I need to move back to Portland and Odyssey will be forced to let me move back to work. Ehh, probably not.

Sunday, Sun Burns...

*click*

Started the day very early at the Etnies Park. It was nice to finally have that park to myself and ride the entire thing from one end to the other in one run. I met Dean and Kurt there. We were going to head into downtown and ride some spots, so we got an early start.

There were several highlights to the day like: Driving by a movie set downtown with giant warning signs for gunfire, explosions and smoke. It looked crazy on those closed streets. Driving down the main drag in Hollywood and yelling at tourists. I did happen to see some cool stars from the truck, non of them said B-Dubbs, not yet at least.

The number one highlight of the day was right at the start of it after Etnies. We heard about a 36 foot tall quarter pipe up the road at the Oneil/Lost Building. That's right, 36 feet tall. It was stupid. We removed the boards at the bottom of it and Kurt proceded to pedal as fast as he could at it. He maxed out at over 20 feet. We tried some tow in's but there was not a good drive way to drive through. All in all it was a ood time and we were all warn out before we even really got the day started. Peep the pics, enjoy your vacation day tomorrow.-ben

Metro Jam Madness...

As you know Portland is empty this weekend and someone left the lights on and forgot to lock the door. Unfortunately the only news I have gotten from the contest was from Ben Hucke after he left the Emergency Room.

I guess the previous evening, I assume him, Holly and several others were out enjoying the Vancouver night life. As Ben and Holly were walking across a street a drunk guy runs a red light at 40mph going the wrong way up a street and hit both Holly and him. Holly was pushed to the side and down onto the street while Ben reportedly went up and over the car and landing back onto the street with a broken leg.

I guess the guy made it a block and he was stopped and arrested. Everything I got is from a real quick bad connection phone call with Ben. When I know a bit more I will let you know. All I know is thank god we didn't lose some friends this weekend.-ben

Happy September!!!

This month starts right off with a bang, rather a magzine full of bangers! Got the new Ride UK and damn, Portland is represented well. Road Fools article where Chet, Eddie, and Sher all get some portrait love, then you turn the page and boom, Chester almost page and a half can can foot plant seat grab on a mini ramp guard rail. A few more pages in, boom boom, Chet with probably the biggest and most controversial banger done on that Fools trip, a huge 2nd story window ice pick. Insane, you will just have to see the mag to know what I am talking about.

So after Chet rocked the pages, here comes the long anticipated Eddie Cleveland Interview and it delivers. Good questions and even better pictures. It was cool to be around for every shot in this interview. It will forever remond me of a time away from home and riding with some of the best friends ever. Good stuff. I'm away from a computer right now, you can be sure that I will get some scans of this stuff for you eye's asap. Have a good long weekend.-ben
