Another Vancouver Update...

There are some good developments in the Vancouver saga. Please get involved and help show support from the riding community.-ben

Well I guess the pressure must be on for the park to open this year instead of next year. (which is only right)

Here's the latest:

"As you probably already know, Clark County is in the process of building a new 10,000 square foot Extreme Sports Park at Pacific Community Park (NE 18th Street at 164th Avenue). Grindline has been busy building the park since March and expects to be done around mid-July. Once their work has been inspected and approved, Clark County will open the Extreme Sports Park to the public - probably in late July.

The rest of the Pacific Park development project won't be done until early 2008, however. That means that none of the parking lots, restrooms or other park features will be done yet.

In order to get ready for opening the Extreme Sports Park, Clark County would like to meet with local skaters and BMXers to talk about what's happening at the park, and decide how best to address issues related to the early opening like a lack of parking. We'd also like your help writing the Extreme Sports Park rules and other advisory signage, and will be presenting information about Phase 2 of the Extreme Sports Park and how the skateboarding and BMX community can help raise the money needed to build it.

Before I schedule this meeting, I wanted to hear from you all about what days and times would be better for you and your friends to have this meeting.

I was thinking of having the meeting at the new Firstenburg Community Center on NE 136th Avenue since it's relatively nearby, but don't know if you would prefer the meeting to be on a weekday afternoon or evening, or a weekend.

Please e-mail me or call me as soon as possible and let me know what you think will work the best and get the most people to attend. Also, let me know if you know of anyone who might be willing to provide free refreshments, etc. at the meeting. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to other people who might be interested in it, or repost it on Web pages or blogs.

Thank you for helping me out with this! I look forward to hearing from you".

i just got this email too. its such bullshit that you see nothing but development after development come up and get done, but they take fucking forever on something that will make people happy but not make the city any money. you got to love capitalism.

i've litterally have waited 5 years for this damn thing to come. ive seen 95% of the crew i ride with, people who were stoked on the park, leave bmx while waiting for this stupid shit.

maybe after this is done, we can get the city of camas to finally finish their shitty ass park. i remember when i was at the meeting for that park trying to get bikes in. how they promised bikes, and they promised halfpipes and all this additional funding within the next two years. what happened after that?... fucking no bikes allowed signs, an empty loading dock where the half pipe was suppose to be built, (now broken)moveable ramps that were suppose to be replaced by ramps made of cement, and no funding, and nothing has changed for the 4 or so years its been open.

err!.!.!.!. clark county pisses me off, i hate it with a passion but its home.
