Vancouver Park Update...

This is an email I received with an update as to why the Vancouver Park is not open. I did not edit it to show the frustration this is bringing the locval community. Sorry I have been away so long.-ben

Here's the scoop (of shit) on Pacific park (the new one) in Vancouver direct from the horses mouth... (a reply to an e-mail I sent)
a lot of people think it is going to be open in july, yeah it's going to be open in july but july 2008
which sucks because the thing is less than a mile from my house....

"I understand your frustration, but there are a variety of reasons why we can't open one portion of the park early.

1. We have no money in our budget to maintain the park until 2008 (litter pick up, graffiti removal, repairs, etc.). We set our budgets every two years based on when the park construction will be complete.

2. There are only a limited number of on-street parking spots (one side of the street only) that are already being used by the people who use the dog park on the southwest corner of the park, and semi-trucks. We are building two parking lots as part of the project that will be used by all park users, but those won't be done for some time.

3. The park does not actually belong to the county while it's under construction. If a member of the public got hurt while using the park and decided to sue over it, the contractor would be liable. That's not something they're insured for.

The contractor is doing all they can to finish the entire project as quickly as possible. Until then, the park will remain closed".

Hopefully this will clear up some confusion for the riders here locally, who are wondering what the fuck is going on... it's really obvious that the county has more excuses than someone going to jail and are most likely way too busy making sure there are more cement curbs in the middle of the roads here than any place else on the planet.......
