Stevie Brandenburg R.I.P.

Old ass pic and another FG woodpark session. Brakeless with a lever what!
Towards the end of my day today at work I decide to log on and check the space. Browsing the Bulletins and I see one from one of my "Little Brothers" sister saying, "Drinking and Driving Don't Add up.. RIP STEVEN." I immediately felt cold and hoped that I wasn't about to read what I knew I was about to read.
Some years ago I heard about some jumps in a field and I went to check them out. Little did I know I would be meeting two young kids that I would eventually treat as if they were my blood. Adam Acosta and Stevie Brandenburg were these two kids. I think they were around 14 when I met them and it is hard to believe it has almost been 10 years since that day. Stevie lived next door to the jumps and Adam lived up the road across the street from what is now the Forest Grove Skatepark. I would do everything I could to keep these two guys in bikes. I would beat up on them and make them stay in school and I would kick their ass if they got into any sort of trouble.
Time goes on, trails after set of trails are plowed, I graduated college and I move into the city ending the trails part of my life. These two guys continued to ride even after they started High School. They both were even involved in trying to start a BMX Club in the school. I think these little bastards managed to get credit for digging trails, totally genius. Eventually life would catch up with Stevie and he left the school system and Adam managed to stick it out. After I moved it was easier to stay in contact with Adam than it was with Stevie. I never knew where he (Stevie) would live and if he even had a phone number. The days when I did get to see him and watch him ride were some of the best.
You see over the years Adam and Stevie pushed and inspired each others riding. It would be hard to tell, since they had styles at total opposite ends of the spectrum. Now that I look back, their styles reflected their ways of life. Adam: well thought out, controlled and stylish, Stevie: full tilt, just did it and did it well. The last time I saw them both on bikes they were still on top of their game, both great riders in their own right. More importantly, they were both the kind of friends, little brothers, you would do anything for and you knew they would appreciate it to no end.
Like all stories there has to be an ending at least for half of the story. This weekend Stevie passed away.....it is finally starting to hit me, just as I type this.
BANKS, Ore. - A man was killed and two people were injured in a fiery car crash near here Sunday evening.
Authorities identified the man killed as 23-year-old Steven Brandenburg.
The two injured people, 23-year-old David Baynes of Hillsboro and a 17-year-old girl whose name was not released, were taken to an area hospital, where they remained Monday. Their condition was not known.
The sheriff's office said the 17-year-old girl was listed as a runaway and is in the custody of the Oregon Department of Human Services.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred on Highway 47 about two miles south of Banks about 5:45 p.m. Police said a car with three people inside failed to make a sharp corner, hit a power pole and rolled at least once, causing it to catch fire.
The driver, David Baynes, and the girl, who was in the front passenger seat, were able to escape while Brandenburg, who was sitting in the back, was not. When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. It was not known whether the Brandenburg was alive when the car caught fire, the sheriff's office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol and speed appeared to be factors in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
The highway was closed as police investigated the crash.
Investigators are trying to find a witness who was driving a silver or light blue pickup truck and stopped to help just after the crash occurred. The witness might have seen the car before it crashed and might have "vital information" for the investigation, the sheriff's office said.
Forest Grove New Times
Fuck what do you say? This another friend lost to drunk driving and it doesn't get any easier. Drinking and driving is not a good idea trust me. Stevie was a good friend to so many of us in the scene and I guarantee even though we haven't seen him some time, we often wondered about him. Steve I will miss you and I wish I could have helped somewhere in your path to point or bump you I another direction. You were a fucking awesome friend and thanks for all of the good times you brought with you be it digging in a monsoon out in the woods or building that fucking box jump in your drive way that didn't exactly make the home life any easier. You were always a legit and stand up person and TRUE G. RIP. Read on.

Long day at the office...
Just a quick post today. Turns out there was another earthquake yesterday morning, totally slept through that one. Chris from work said the epicenter was pretty much exactly underneath where he lives. Pretty nuts since that is only 10 miles or so from where I live max.Started the "work" day at 9:03am and ended it at 10:30pm. Getting ready for Interbike is fun! More tomorrow. Going to go to bed now, hope you had a great day. B-dubbs was here. Read on.

What do you do...

What do you do when this is at least day 3 of 100 plus degree temperatures? Well today I decided not to do anything but hide out in a movie theater and take advantage of their air conditioning. The theater of choice is the University Theater across the street from the UCI campus.
This theater is dialed. It is quite small and usually only shows independant films and documentaries. I have had a growing list of hard to find new releases so I thought it would be a good time to see them. Todays choices are King of Kong - Pocket full of quarters and Sicko. King of Kong is a documentary about the Donkey Kong video game and a man who decides to travel the country and beat the long time high score record. Seems pretty interesting. Go here to see its trailer. The other movie, Sicko is Michael Moore's newest film about the Insurance Industry in the US. You can check its trailer out here.
I wrote the above post before seeing either movie. King of Kong was fucking rad, see it if you can. I was really getting into Sicko, everything was presented in a way to allow you to make your own decision on the topic. Right as the film was building towards it's finally, about 20 Minutes from the end, the theater last all power. It turned out the at least 107 degree weather killed all of the power in the area. It was kinda crazy to be walking out into a nice day and there being no power to anything. Talk about Inconvenient.
Yesterday after the earthquake I met up with Jeff Z and Brad Simms at the Spine Ditch near Pasadena. It was soooooooo hot. After Brad took care of some business we headed over to USC to cruise around and check out beautiful girls. I eventually got a flat and Brad hop 180'ed over a 4 foot tall rail from flat for a picture. Dude is really good. That is all for now. Have a good day. B-dubbs was here. Read on.

4.7 EARTHQUAKE!!!

Pretty sure I just felt my first Earthquake since I moved here. Sitting here at the desk working and it starts to feel like my house is being jacked up and I didn't think that was too strange until I realized my house cant be jacked up. It lasted 15 to 20 seconds. Sweet!
Go here to read up if you are interested. Read on.

If you are like me you were too busy at work to make plans for this nice 3 day Labor Day Weekend. It just kind of snuck up on me. So far I have been able to freestyle it and day one was pretty dialed. Two more days away from my desk and I could really go for some weather under 100 degrees. I also have two flat tires to fix from last weekend. So if I need to shred I will surely have to fix them.
This is also the 2nd day of September, 15 more days till I am actually 30, haha, that is rad! And another week or so after that is Interbike. All I have to say is bring it on bitches. Oh yeah and Team Schralp, this is the Original Portland Site so you guys and Goods can suck it! Thanks for all of the help when I asked for it in the past, haha.
Well I was thinking about all of you out there not lucky enough to get away for the weekend and I wanted to give you at least 1 thing to waste a few minutes of your day. Since it is the beginning of the month, it is time for the Mosh crew to drop their newest web edit. This one features none other than Portland Brethren Wolfman, Loid and that one guy named Eddie Cleveland. This video is fucking rad and the ender is off the hook. You WILL watch this over and over again. Till next time. B-dubbs was here! Read on.

Tuff Love Art Show Los Angeles...
I am posting from the Tuff Love Art Show presented by Knight Bikes at SLB in LA. Several companies, Odyssey, Sunday, Subrosa and Metal just to name a few, were given a regular White Tuffwheel and asked to decorate and/or modify it in any way they liked.Today was the opening of the show and it was held at SLB in the heart of
the new trendy hot spot of street wear, Fairfax. I headed out with Nuno to check things out. SLB is former Pro Skateboarder and BMX aficionado Sal Barbier skate/clothing/sneaker shop. There were a lot of people on hand and DJ's keeping the music flowing. Free beer, water and Redbull definitely kept the people happy. Dj Grey Boy was hanging out on an amazing Vintage CW Phase 1 Cruiser. There were actually a lot of great old bikes around to check out. Take a look at the pics, they are what they are, I forgot my digital camera, so you will have to make due with some flicks from the ol' scene kick. Enjoy.-ben
