Not trying to come off as a total bummer here, but if today were just any other day that I got to spend with some family I haven't seen in a while it would have been totally fine. Seeing as it was Christmas where I enjoy waking up early sitting around the tree and watching my family and most of all my niece and nephews open presents, it was seriously lacking.

I have never felt so out of place on a Christmas day. Up alright early, to the airport by 2pm to pick up my sister who was stuck in Denver over night to what felt like the longest commute ever to North Texas. The drive was real good in the beginning, then we ran out of light and ran into frozen and snow covered roads, really slowing things down.

We rolled into Lubbock around 8:30-9 o'clock and headed straight to my Grandmas birthday party. Well, we did some wondering through sketchy neighborhoods and snow covered alleys, but we eventually found the spot. Once in we were shown off by my mom and grandmother like prized dogs. Honestly, I wasn't here for anyone else but my Grandma. I hadn't seen her in too long and that is all I wanted to do.

After a serious performance of Happy Birthday, first an amazing Spanish version by the live band, accordion and all, then a butchered English version that found it's legs by the end. The party neared completion. Some more music and dancing, none of it by my cousin, sister or me, the night was over. Time to head to my Grandma's farm.

Our Christmas dinner was Subway and that would end up being just about the only thing we would eat for the day. I chose the "Open on Christmas Day" photo to show you what my Christmas looked like. I can see a year like this could lead a person to hating the whole holiday for here on out, but I am not that way. Like I said, if it were any other normal day, today would have been a great one, full of adventure, family and eventually a party that would have included drinking, but it was Christmas and I didn't get to enjoy those little things that are "Christmas" to me. There is always next year and I can't wait.
