Up early, no church, fist pump. But we loaded up the car and headed into town to grab breakfast and my Grandma's spot. Going here is just like going to church. She gets to show out with her kids and we end up shaking a lot of hands and greeting a lot of people. After a great breakfast, a visit at my mom's Aunts house, and a visit to the car wash, gas station and topping off of the oil, we hit the road.

I really wanted to make it back at a decent hour and we were rolling around 12:30. All was going well with the drive, clear roads and blue sky's. Yes it was like 30 outside, but it was a really nice day. About 120 miles into the drive the knock my engine had made obvious after my move from California had gotten a lot worse. I moved to the outside exiting lane. At about 125 miles boom, smoke, debris flying and I just set it to coast as far as I could. I made it up and onto an exit and eventually would stop in a gravel pull out area. Fuck, engine was cooked.

After several phone calls with Roadside there is a truck on it's way in to pick up the car. There was no room for my family though. The tow service said they could send another truck to pick us up, but it would cost $100 bucks. I told them no thanks, I would figure something out. I called several taxi companies and nothing, my mom eventually called my grandma and we had family on the way. About an hour later the tow company shows up with the flatbed and the truck to pick us up. WTF? We really had no choice so we took the ride and it cost me $100. We got dropped off at the Mazda dealership where my cousin Monica picked us up. I had never met her and she still came to get us, family is legit.

We left the car and she took me to another cousins house where they were in the middle of watching football and cooking out. I met about 10 new cousins and they were all real rad people. I eventually booked a rental and Monica took us to the airport to pick it up. On the way to the airport it turned out my mom forgot her jacket at the house, we just left it for another day. After I get the rental, my cousin Aaron realizes he can't find his bag, we chase down Monica and it isn't in her truck, turned out it was in the Tow truck still. I call them and it was a huge ball up, we say fuck it and hit the road, get the back another time.

First stop was about 60 miles down to road in Coleman at my mom's uncles house. They take us in, feed us and we all hang out for a while telling stories. I had met most of these people at one time, but I was a little ass kid. My mom had grown up with them, so they were like sisters and parents to her. Great evening for sure. We hit the road home about 11. I drink a 5 hour energy drink and it was on.

The drive went quite good, thankfully. We made it into Austin just before 2 and stopped for some Taco Cabana breakfast. Once home we unpacked and eventually crashed out. One hell of a day and not trying to think about my car or the money lost today.

bdubblevision was here.
